Legacies A Will is your gift to the people and causes that were important to you during your life. It is also the only way to make sure that your wishes are carried out after your death. Despite this two thirds of the population don’t make a Will. Without a Will your loved ones and favorite charities are not guaranteed your estate. Even if you are married, living with your partner or have children, it is wrong to assume that they will automatically receive your estate should you die. A Will lets you leave clear guidance, saving your grieving loved ones from having to sort things out themselves. Remembering the WheelPower in your Will is an excellent way to support our work with disabled children and adults. Charitable legacies are exempt from Inheritance Tax so your full gift will help the disabled regain their confidence and self esteem through sport (rather than your part going to the tax man). If you don't have a Will, the best advice is to consult your solicitor or click here to request our Legacy Information Pack (email to) which outlines the relevant steps to making a Will.
Keeping your Will up-to-date It is extremely important to keep your Will up-to-date, otherwise, it may not reflect your wishes at the time of your death. At a time of great sorrow, this could cause your family and friends even more heartache. Whenever your circumstances change, it is vital to update your Will. If you get married, have a child, divorce or if your partner dies, you should amend your Will with a simple addition known as a codicil. You can also add a codicil to include a legacy to WheelPower. If you have any questions about codicils, please consult your solicitor or request our Legacy Information Pack.
Make a lasting difference Without the money we receive from legacies, WheelPower would be able to help far fewer disabled children and adults across the UK. Your gift will be vital in improving the lives of thousands of disabled people. These are just some of the ways in which your generosity could help: £1,000 would fund a Disability Training Camp – a weekend of sport for participants at all levels. £5,000 would support our annual "British Wheelchair Sports Awards" recognising the talents and abilities of men, women and children in wheelchair sport. Award categories include Juniors, Newcomer, Individual and Team Performance, Coach, Media, Service (Volunteers) and Lifetime. £10,000 would provide the support funding needed to host the National Junior Games giving some 300 young people aged 12-18 years their introduction to sport and an opportunity for competition in 10 sports. £25,000 would fund our annual Disability Training Camps, a weekend of sport for participants at all levels for our Sports Associations at the Stoke Mandeville Stadium For details on leaving WheelPower a legacy in your will either consult your solicitor, call us on 01296 395995 or request our Legacy Information Pack.
Gifts in Memoriam If you have lost a friend or relative, a donation to WheelPower is a way of paying tribute to their memory and offers a meaningful alternative to flowers. Funeral Directors will often be happy to help by collecting donations for you but you can send them directly to us if you prefer. We would be extremely grateful to receive the proceeds of your collection. WheelPower - British Wheelchair Sport Stoke Mandeville Stadium Guttmann Road Stoke Mandeville Buckinghamshire HP21 9PP
