The 2021 MKFM Tour de Vale took place on 19 September, as over 850 riders cycled across the Vale of Aylesbury, raising vital funds for the Stoke Mandeville based charity WheelPower. Together the riders raised in excess of £43,000 and earlier this year we were delighted to present trophies to our 3 top fundraisers (individual, junior and team)
Introducing our top 3 fundraisers ...
The Jackson Family (Team Fundraisers)
Phil, Simon, William and George took on the 70km Tour de Vale and with thanks to the generosity of their friends and family they raised just over £1000 as a group for WheelPower. Having wanted to wait until their boys were old enough to do the longer routes they were excited to take on the challenge and were really thankful to organisers for a great cycling event experience.
“We all did surprisingly well! The route was excellent and we all thoroughly enjoyed the ride and also the camaraderie between groups on the way around. We would absolutely would recommend it the Tour de Vale to other families that enjoy cycling together, and we look forward to coming back with more members of our family in the future.”
“Accessibility to sporting activity regardless of an individual’s physical ability is essential to maintaining people’s wellbeing on so many levels, and WheelPower acting as catalyst for that will only ever be a positive endeavour. We congratulate the charity on everything that you do and please keep up the great work.”
Zayd Saleem (Individual Fundraiser JUNIOR)
Shelley Halsey (Individual Fundraiser ADULT)
Super Shelley rode the 70km route on her Tri-cycle! (read her full story) Not only did she want to support WheelPower by cycling in the event, but she was also keen to raise as much money for the charity as possible. Through the generosity of her friends, family and customers at the nursery/cafe in Winslow she has raised a total of £2,602 which was absolutely fantastic.
“I can’t really express how grateful I am to the people who sponsored me and their encouraging words. ‘Go get them tiger’ are some of those words that stayed in my mind! Thank you again to everyone who supported the cause. I really enjoyed the challenge and watch this space for the next one! Special thanks to Peter and Jeremy for their belief and continued support in me.”
“After the ride the sponsorship just kept coming in and in addition to the Just Giving page we have raised a further £1160 in cash. Shelley has raised in excess of £2600 all told and I’m so proud of her!” (Jane, Shelley’s Mum)
