Wheelchair Entries

Over the past few years, we have been delighted to support a number of wheelchair users to take part in and complete the London Marathon.

If you are interested in taking part we would love you to join the WheelPower Team and help inspire other disabled people by completing this once in a life time challenge. Contact our Events Team at hello@wheelpower.org.uk or call us on 01296 395995.

"At London Marathon Events we believe that sport and activity should be accessible for all, which is why our dedicated team supports people with a huge range of disabilities – from elite wheelchair athletes to everyday participants – to take part in the TCS London Marathon."

TCS London Mini Marathon Championships

The London marathon is committed to supporting distance running from playground to podium, and the mini marathon is a great place to start your journey!

  • The Mini Marathon is completely FREE to enter and all participants will also receive a free t-shirt for taking part! You can use either day chair or racing chair. There is no entry requirement and you don’t need to be classified in athletics or a member of a club.

Event criteria:

  • All wheelchair participants must be able to self-propel themselves over 2.6K within the time limit of 45 minutes
  • Participants must wear a helmet and gloves and can either use a standard, sports or racing chair
  • There will be opportunities for athletes to be fully classified before the race, which we would encourage you to do before you apply

For further details on taking part in these categories, please contact Michelle Weltman, the TCS Mini London Marathon Wheelchair and Ambulant/Para Athlete Coordinator, at paraathletes@londonmarathonevents.co.uk

James is running the marathon in memory of his dad

James’ London Marathon journey is in memory of his dad who passed away recently.  When James lines up at the start of the 2026 London Marathon, he won’t just be thinking about the 26.2 miles ahead.  It’s a very personal reason to take on such a huge challenge.

Rachel – taking on the marathon again

Rachel’s journey into life as a wheelchair user began in 2019 following a spinal cord injury as a pillion passenger on a motorbike.  Spinal surgery was delayed due to contracting Covid 19. Despite surgery, she lost the use of her right leg and has very limited feeling in her left. Adjusting later in life as a wheelchair user has  brought physical, emotional and practical challenges.

Rachel’s father supported her journey and helped fund her equipment before passing away in 2025.

“I have to complete this now for my dad.”

Lauren or ‘Lil’ wants to ‘give back’ to WheelPower

Lauren first discovered WheelPower four years ago, after being introduced through her local Rotary group. Her first experience was a Sports Festival in Colchester, where she had the chance to try various wheelchair based sports in one place, in one day.

“It was the first time I really felt empowered,” she recalls. “There’s not always a lot of support for adults, but WheelPower made me feel like I wasn’t alone. Being around people in a similar situation really meant a lot.”

“I want to raise money for WheelPower to help them put on as many sports events as possible, in more places and more often. People need what they offer.”
