WheelPower’s National Junior Sports Festival is a brand new event held at Stoke Mandeville Stadium, the birthplace of the Paralympic Movement.

This new Festival is a great way for children with physical disabilities to discover sport in a safe, welcoming and friendly environment.

The event will take place on Saturday 9 May from 0930 to 2000.

0930-1000 Registration
1000-1130 Session 1
1130-1300 Session 2
1300-1400 Lunch (a packed lunch will be provided to participants and parents/guardians)
1400-1530 Session 3
1530-1700 Session 4
1700-1830 Dinner (a cooked meal will be provided for those staying for evening games)
1830-2000 Wheelchair basketball, powerchair football, wheelchair rugby games

Who is the National Junior Sports Festival suitable for?

Physically disabled young people aged between 5-17.

Please note this event is for physically disabled individuals with disabilities such as; spinal cord injury, limb loss, cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy etc. We have limited places available and are unfortunately unable to provide places for those whose primary impairment is visual, hearing or intellectual.

Charities such as British Blind Sport, UK Deaf Sport and Special Olympics provide events for those with sensory and intellectual disabilities. We would be happy to put you in contact with them. If you are unsure whether the impairment of a participant makes them eligible for this event, please email sport@wheelpower.org.uk

What happens at WheelPower’s National Junior Sports Festival?

Participants will be put into age-appropriate groups and will be encouraged to work their way through the zones to experience up to 20 different sports. All sports will be delivered by coaches with extensive experience of inclusive sport. Sports on offer will include:

Wheelchair tennis, wheelchair rugby, wheelchair basketball, fencing, boccia, table tennis, wheelchair badminton, powerchair football, rowing, shooting, canoeing, hand cycling, athletics, archery, and more…

Who looks after the young people?

Young people will attend with parents or as part of a school group. Participants must be supervised throughout the day.

What is the cost?

Registration fee per participant is £10

Accommodation

Due to a redevelopment, there is no longer accommodation on site at Stoke Mandeville Stadium. Accessible Bucks Accommodation.
WheelPower will offer a £50 subsidy, Participant Hotel Claim Form. Subsidies to be applied for following attendance at the event.

Catering

A packed lunch will be provided for both participant and parent/guardian. A cooked meal will be provided to those staying for the evening activities.
