Wheelchair Curling

Learn to Curl with WheelPower and British Curling
WheelPower is proud to partner with British Curling to host our first-ever ‘Learn to Curl’ event – a fun and inclusive introduction to the sport of wheelchair curling.

This exciting event is open to wheelchair users aged 16 and over who are keen to try something new. No previous experience is needed, just enthusiasm and a willingness to give it a go! Whether you’re curious about the sport, looking for a new recreational activity, or dreaming of becoming a Paralympian, we’d love to welcome you to the rink.

What to bring?
To help you enjoy the session comfortably and safely, please come prepared:

  • Dress in layers on both top and bottom. This allows flexibility and warmth. Avoid bulky clothing like thick jumpers or jogging bottoms.
  • No jeans, please (they can be restrictive on the ice).
  • Wear fully enclosed shoes (trainers are ideal).
  • A hat and gloves may be helpful if you feel the cold.
  • Don’t forget your theraband for warm-up exercises.

For wheelchair curling, your own day chair will be used on the ice. Please ensure it has clean wheels and working brakes. We will provide delivery sticks on the day.

What is Wheelchair Curling?

Wheelchair curling is a tactical and engaging sport that can be played by by people with a wide range of disabilities who use a wheelchair for daily living or for sport. Players use a delivery stick to push a 20kg granite stone down a sheet of ice, aiming to land it as close as possible to the centre of a circular target.

Unlike traditional curling, there’s no sweeping involved, and all stones are delivered from a stationary position. It’s a fully inclusive activity, offering both recreational and competitive opportunities, all played on the same ice as the Olympic and Paralympic versions of the game.
