Physical Activity Advisor – Stanmore

Mark is the Physical Activity Advisor at Stanmore RNOH Spinal Unit where he has been working for over 10 years.

Mark has always been involved in sport and used to enjoy running and cycling.  He ran the London marathon and then went on to take part in the London triathlon and the Etap du Tour in France.

After breaking his neck in 2007 he started wheelchair racing with the aim of beating his running times! He completed the London marathon twice in the chair (beating his running time at the second attempt) and has taken part in a number of half marathons and 10k races since. He also enjoyed playing wheelchair rugby for a couple of years, and is a qualified table tennis coach.

He is a qualified gym instructor and part of his role at the Spinal Unit is working alongside physiotherapists introducing patients to the gym as part of their rehabilitation.  He also runs a number of the sports sessions at the hospital, introducing patients to a wide range of wheelchair sports, from basketball to boccia.

Mark enjoys travelling and is a season ticket holder at Tottenham Hotspur.
