Ted is 7 years old and from Devizes in Wiltshire where he lives with his family. He has cerebral palsy and absolutely loves sport. Coming to the Wiltshire Wheelchair Sports Festival was something he had been looking forward to for many weeks and its safe to say that it lived up to his expectations. This is Ted’s Story …

Ted is a very active child and he ‘Lives for Sport’ according to his parents Sally and Neil. After hearing about the sports festival from a family member they signed up and added the date to the calendar!

“Ted loves sport and particularly cricket and power chair football (he currently plays for the Frome Falcons) He’s been so excited about coming to the WheelPower event and has been counting down his sleeps until the day arrived!”

“Since arriving he’s been having a great time and has tried lots of different sports. He was really looking forward to trying fencing the most and he couldn’t wait to give it a go! Luckily that’s what he did first, and it was good to see that he listened really well and he said he ‘felt like a ninja’ wearing all of the kit.”

“Over at the tennis he initially struggled to hit the ball but again he listened to the coaches who were really good and enthusiastic, and they changed the activity a little bit so he could do it. By the end of it he was hitting the ball over the net and doing really well.”

“Ted had played Boccia before which was a bit calmer before we ended the day with basketball and table tennis. Ted uses a powerchair most of the time so it has been great to see him whizzing around in a sports chair. Although he does have a manual wheelchair at home we do generally push him around. Today was his first time in a sports chair and its been great to see.”

“I would absolutely 100% recommend it to other parents. Ted has had such a great day and he wouldn’t have been able to try any of these sports otherwise. As well as the sporting opportunity its also been good to meet people and spend time doing sports with them, and also making new friends too. For Ted it’s been really good for him to see other people in chairs of all ages. It’s been so inspiring to be involved in this day and we thank WheelPower very much for putting on this life changing event. We can’t wait for the next one! It’s been such a good day.” (Sally, Ted’s Mum)
